Tryouts

So you want to skate for Wasatch Roller Derby!?

Wasatch Roller Derby does not conduct set tryouts. If you are interested in being a WRD skater contact us and we will plan a time for you to come skate and show off your skills. We accept a limited number of girls per year so contact us as soon as you think you are interested.

The best way to prepare to play roller derby is to come see us play, and then to skate, skate, and skate some more! The more comfortable you are on your skates, the faster you will pick up the game. See below for suggestions on what to work on.

There are several things we look for in a skater:

Basic skills:
Agility
Balance
Crossovers
Endurance
Forward skating
Skating low
Skating on one foot
Speed
Stopping

Other important features of a roller derby girl:
Good Attitude
Basic knowledge of the sport
Ability to listen and apply new knowledge
Enthusiasm

What will I need if I become a skater?
Every skater will be required to have a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads mouth guard and quad roller skates. Talk to a derby girl before you run out and make the initial investment for gear. You want to make sure you buy good quality that will both last and protect you.

For insurance purposes, you will be required to sign a waiver before you skate with us. (It's a very standard waiver we would be happy to e-mail anyone a copy to look over.)
